Jump Start - Jump starts is a good way for a beginner to get started after learning the stance, once accomplished it gives you confidence to going into more extreme. You can go as fast or as slow as you would like.

First position your board against the slope so that it doesn't roll anywhere, have both your feet fitted tightly into your bindings and make sure they are secure tight. When you want to start just make a little jump starting with your front leg and followed by the back one, similar to skate boarding jumps. Using these small jumps you are able to start and get rolling as you please.

Hill Start - Hill Start is an easier method to getting started rolling in mountain boarding because you are in control of the board from where you start from the first second, if its your first go and you are without heel straps hill start is more recommended than jump start.

First, position your board downwards so that its facing downhill, have your front foot on the board secured into the binding and then with your back foot give yourself a little push just like in skateboarding. One important thing to remember is that these mountain boards are pretty wide and usually your back foot gets caught by your back wheels.

When you gain enough speed while pushing that is if you aren't that close to the edge of the hill, i recommend that you place your back foot on to the center of the board before placing it to the back binding for more balance at the start of the ride. A-lot find this method easier than placing your back foot straight into the back bindings after generating enough speed from pushing.

After you have your starting practiced and learned the next stage in getting started would be steering.
