Steering - on a mountain board steering is the only method of control, so its pretty much essential to get it right. Knowing how to steer and how to do it properly has difference, because it all comes with training and practice, steering is also the method of controlling speed. A-lot of people who have seen the mountain boarding sport think they can do it just because they know how to ride a skate board, but its far more than that. knowing how to to steer is without a doubt important but you should also look into how not to steer as there is some elements you would like to avoid.

How-to not steer - first of all a mountainboard is not steered like a snowboard. You shoulders must always be fixed in a position where they are parallel to your feet to maintain the center of gravity. If you stair with your shoulder not being in the enter of gravity the possibilities are most likely you are going to fall off, which we don't want to happen. Second of all you cant steer with your ankles, as your ankles simply do not have the strenght for the accurate control over the mountain board, also it could cause you board to wobble which is most likely followed by you falling.

Body positioning - the best way to steer and what is recommended is to use your hips to steer. At the same time how parallel your shoulders to the board dictates how much control over it you have. if you lean forward the direction your traveling then you have the least control if your planning to steer in that position. Using your hips is the best and the only recommended method of steering, it had been proven to have the most control and the greatest stability while turning.
